Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel for Audi RS3, RS5, RS6, RS7 & TT RS — Fitment Guide
Upgrade your steering wheel — custom carbon fiber made for your exact car model.
Shop Now →Audi's RS lineup represents the pinnacle of the four-ring performance hierarchy — and every RS model benefits from the same carbon fiber steering wheel upgrade that transforms the cockpit from refined to genuinely purposeful. This guide covers the RS3, RS5 Coupe/Sportback, RS6 Avant, RS7, RS Q8, and the TT RS for owners of Audi's MQB and MLB platform performance cars.
Audi RS Steering Column Platform Overview
Audi RS vehicles use a VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) steering column architecture shared across the MQB and MLB platform families. This is among the most well-supported aftermarket wheel platforms available — hub adapters from multiple manufacturers, extensive fitment data, and a large global community of installers all make the Audi RS upgrade one of the most straightforward high-performance fitments.
Critically: Audi RS paddle shifters are column-fixed on all S tronic/DCT cars (they do not rotate with the wheel). Aftermarket wheels retain full shift paddle functionality without modification.
RS3 (8V — 2015–2020 / 8Y — 2022+)
The RS3 is the most popular Audi RS platform for CF wheel upgrades — it occupies an attainable price point with genuine performance credentials. The 8V uses the MQB hub; the 8Y uses the evolved MQB Evo hub. Adapters are available for both generations. The 8Y RS3's more aggressive steering tune makes the weight reduction from a CF wheel more perceptible than on the softer 8V. Red stitching to match the RS3's red interior accent stitching is the most popular choice.
RS5 Coupe / Sportback (B9 — 2017+)
The RS5 uses the MLB platform hub — a different specification than the MQB RS3. Hub adapters are widely available. The RS5's 2.9L biturbo V6 and sport torque vectoring system communicate well through a lighter wheel. The RS5 Coupe's beautiful proportions are complemented by a CF wheel that matches the factory's carbon fiber interior trim packages. Many RS5 owners choose black suede with grey stitching for a premium, understated look.
RS6 Avant / RS7 Sportback (C8 — 2020+)
The C8 RS6 and RS7 share the MLB Evo platform with the Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne. Hub adapters are confirmed for both. These are grand touring performance cars — airbag-compatible setups are the standard choice, and premium leather/suede mixed rims suit the RS6's luxurious character. The RS6 Avant's recent cultural moment (thanks to its celebrity fanbase) has driven significant interest in CF interior upgrades, with the steering wheel being the most visible single change.
TT RS (8S — 2016+)
The TT RS uses the MQB hub and is one of the most rewarding Audi platforms for CF wheel upgrades — its compact cockpit makes the steering wheel the dominant visual element, and the car's sharp chassis dynamics make the lighter wheel's feedback improvement immediately obvious. Many TT RS owners fit the smallest available CF wheel (340mm) to maximize the sports car feel. Red or black stitching; flat-bottom for the low-seating TT RS cockpit.
RS Q8 (2020+)
The RS Q8 sits on the MLB Evo platform. Hub adapters available. For the world's fastest SUV at the Nürburgring, a CF wheel upgrade is an appropriate statement. Many RS Q8 owners spec their cars with Audi's own carbon fiber interior packages — the aftermarket CF wheel completes this look at a fraction of the dealer option cost.
Audi Virtual Cockpit and MMI Integration
Audi's multi-function steering wheel carries MMI controls (volume, navigation input, phone) and RS drive mode shortcuts on some variants. These transfer to stalk/touchscreen after aftermarket wheel installation. The RS drive modes (Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, RS Individual) are accessible via the MMI touchscreen on all current RS cars — no functionality is truly lost, but the convenience of wheel-mounted controls is reduced. For track use where Dynamic mode is set and left, this is irrelevant.
Airbag Considerations
VAG SRS systems are well-understood by the aftermarket — airbag-compatible horn modules that maintain the correct SRS impedance are available and prevent warning lights on all MQB and MLB platform Audis. For dedicated track builds, airbag delete is straightforward. The RS3 track community in particular has a strong precedent for airbag-delete builds paired with harness bars.
Recommended Builds
- RS3 8Y (street/track): 340–350mm flat-bottom, 2x2 twill carbon, suede rim, red stitching, airbag-compatible horn module. A near-perfect specification for the 8Y's character.
- RS5 Coupe (weekend GT): 350mm flat-bottom, mixed leather/suede rim, grey or black stitching, full carbon spokes, airbag-compatible. Sophisticated and purposeful.
- RS6 Avant / RS7 (daily GT): 355mm flat-bottom, premium leather rim with carbon suede inserts, airbag-compatible, black or grey stitching. Matches the RS6's dual-personality character.
- TT RS (track/sport): 340mm flat-bottom, airbag delete for dedicated track use, full suede rim, red stitching. The TT RS cockpit with this setup is as focused as any GT3-class car interior.
